Your new supplier handles the changeover. There is no engineer visit for most switches, and your supply is never interrupted.
What affects your energy bill?
Unit rate: the price you pay per kilowatt hour (kWh) of gas or electricity used.
Standing charge: a fixed daily amount you pay however much energy you use. When comparing tariffs, look at both figures together, not just one.
Fixed or variable: a fixed tariff holds your rates for a set period, often 12 months or more, but may carry exit fees. A variable tariff can move up or down with the market and, for standard tariffs, with the Ofgem price cap.
Where you live: Ofgem sets the price cap by region, so rates differ between, for example, London, the North West and the South East. Our area guides explain what that means near you.

Is Energy Deal UK an energy supplier?
No. We are a comparison and switching service. Your gas and electricity are still supplied by the company you choose.
Does it cost anything to use?
No. Our service is free to you. [We may receive a commission from suppliers when you switch. This never adds to your bill.]
Will my supply be cut off when I switch?
No. The same network and pipes deliver your energy whichever supplier you choose. Only the company that bills you changes.
How long does switching take?
Usually around five working days. You also have a 14-day cooling-off period after agreeing a new contract.
Can I switch if I'm renting?
Generally yes, if you pay the energy supplier directly. Check your tenancy agreement if you are unsure.
What if I'm in debt to my current supplier?
Switching can be restricted if you owe more than a set amount. Speak to your supplier about a payment plan first.
Do I need a smart meter?
Not to compare or switch, though some tariffs, such as time-of-use plans, require one.
